About English Reading Club

Hi, I'm Ms. Cat.

Hi there! My name is Ms. Cat, and I started English Reading Club.

I'm an adult ESL teacher, and I love reading, writing, and sharing great stories. I created this website because I wanted adult English learners to enjoy reading and improving their English.

I think learning a language should be interesting, relaxing, and fun. A good story can teach you new words, grammar, and ideas without feeling like a textbook.

I hope English Reading Club helps you become more confidence, discover new stories, and enjoy reading in English.

  • I understand why many of my students want to improve their speaking and listening. In truth, all four English skills work together!

    Reading helps you improve your writing and writing helps you improve your speaking. When you speak more, you also get better at listening.

    When you read often, you naturally learn:

    • new vocabulary

    • how to use grammar

    • sentence patterns

    • spelling and punctuation

    • common expressions

    On this website you can practice reading and writing. These two skills will also help you improve your speaking and listening over time.

  • English Reading Club focuses on extensive reading.

    Extensive reading means reading a lot of English because you enjoy it.

    You can choose stories that are easy enough to understand and keep reading. Over time, your vocabulary grows, your reading becomes faster, and English begins to feel more natural.

    Reading a little every day is one of the best ways to improve your English.

  • A good reading level means you understand most of the words. You should learn a few new words and enjoy the story. The best stories are not too easy and not too difficult. Try the Goldilock rules below:

    If you know all of the words, try a higher level.

    If you don’t know 2-3 words, this is a good reading level for you.

    If you don’t know 4+ words, try a lower level.

    Remember, the goal is to enjoy reading while learning something new.

  • Short stories are perfect for daily reading practice.

    Each story includes a short quiz with 3–5 questions to check your understanding.

  • Story Series are longer readings to help you remember new vocabulary and grammar. You can also practice using English on your own with the writing activity.

    Each series is a multi-chapter story. After every chapter, you'll find activities to help you learn even more:

    • 📝 Comprehension questions - check your understanding after each chapter

    • 📚 Vocabulary practice - keywords are repeated each chapter to help you remember new words and see how they are used

    • ⁉️ Grammar review - key grammar points are explained after each chapter

    • ✍🏻 A writing activity - use the writing activity to help you practice new words and use English on your own

    • ✅ An answer guide - check your answers and see explanations to key questions
